
Music Lesson #1 with Freddie the Frog¨
2nd and 3rd Grade
(It works EVERY year!)
1. Greet the kids. Ask
them to sit in the middle of the floor.
2. Sing ÒHello,
Freddie.Ó
3. Introduce the kids
to their music books, including the routine of where they sit, and who hands
out the books.
4. Seat students in
their assigned music seat.
5. Play ÒScrambleÓ
6. Explain that every
time they come to music to always sit in the same place. Game.
7. When I say
ÒscrambleÓ they all get up and walk anywhere, but canÕt touch.
8. When I begin to
count, see how fast they can get back to their music seat without touching
anyone.
9. Explore the music books
then go to page 2.

Sing from the book, following the music with their finger.
11.
Set up who picks up the books and how the books are returned
to their storage place. (Be consistent in this routine each time for efficiency of time.)
12.
End with the hand-clapping singing game, ÒThe Long-Legged
SailorÓ
13.
Return to assigned music seat, stand, turn the direction of
the line and leave when the line is ready.
14.
Stand, turn in direction of the line and leave to give
Freddie a hug and return to their classroom.
